Hello Everyone
Pressed pansy flowers are great for cards, cookies, or any type of art. I have never actually made pansy flower cookies I only eat the artistic creation my aunt makes. My wife and I did make our wedding cards, I am pressing now to make some gift cards. But if you think you might be interested in making any of the items above here is how I press flowers. My flower press is homemade many people use a book but mine is two pieces of plywood and some ratchet straps. I use old card board and newspaper for layering. Both are necessary to get a smooth and absorbent surface. I lay my first sheet of plywood then cardboard then newspaper then flowers and newspaper and cardboard and so on. When finished I lay my second sheet of plywood and tighten straps as tight as possible. When cutting flowers stems should be cut as close to the base of the flower as possible to make a thin and flat press. I like to lay the flowers face down its just easier. Flowers dry in as little as seven days but the drying process should never be rushed. But if needed it can be, blow dryers, high heat and dry air speeds process most college horticulture or agriculture students know this. I have even seen things pressed in a microwave. It can be difficult for a college student to plan a week ahead, plant collection projects don’t make the best last minute projects.
Sincerely,
Tyler Christensen
